Thinking of going solar in 2025? If you’re based in Lincolnshire or Rutland, you’re not alone. We’ve seen a noticeable rise in local households and businesses exploring solar energy — not just to lower bills, but to take advantage of the growing number of grants, schemes and incentives now available.
At Rutland Renewables, we know navigating these funding options can feel a bit overwhelming. That’s why we’ve put together this no-nonsense guide to what’s currently on offer for residents across our region.

1. Smart Export Guarantee (SEG)
One type of solar panel grants Lincolnshire Rutland is the SEG scheme. The SEG scheme replaced the old Feed-in Tariff a few years back, but it’s still going strong in 2025.
Here’s how it works:
If you install solar panels and generate more electricity than you use, you can export the excess back to the National Grid — and get paid for it.
Who’s it for?
Homeowners and businesses with MCS-certified solar panel systems
How much can you earn?
Rates vary by supplier, but typically range from 2p to 15p per kWh exported under the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG).
How to apply?
You’ll need a smart meter and to sign up with a licensed SEG provider (we can help with that)
This is a national scheme, but it’s ideal for local customers who are keen to maximise the value of their solar investment over time.

2. ECO4 Scheme (Energy Company Obligation)
A second type of solar panel grants Lincolnshire Rutland is the ECO4 Scheme.
If you’re on a lower income or receiving certain benefits, you may be eligible for help with the cost of installing energy-saving measures — including solar panels in some cases.
The ECO4 scheme helps eligible households improve energy efficiency, and in some cases, install solar panels.
More information on ECO4 Scheme:
Who qualifies?
Households receiving Universal Credit, Pension Credit, or other income-related benefit.
What does it cover?
Insulation, heating upgrades, and occasionally solar panels where appropriate
How to apply?
Through approved ECO4 installers or via your energy supplier
While solar support under ECO4 isn’t guaranteed, it’s worth checking if you qualify — especially if you live in older housing stock, which is common across parts of Lincolnshire.

3. Local Authority Flex Schemes (LA Flex)
Another type of solar panel grants Lincolnshire Rutland is the Local Authority Flex Scheme.
Some councils in Lincolnshire and Rutland participate in “LA Flex”, an extension of ECO4 that allows more flexible eligibility.
LA Flex in further detail:
Who’s it for?
Households not on benefits but still considered “fuel poor” or living in inefficient properties
How to apply?
Through your district council or energy-saving partnership organisations
It’s worth checking with your local authority. For example:
- South Kesteven District Council (Grantham, Bourne, Stamford)
- Rutland County Council
- North Kesteven and West Lindsey
These schemes aren’t heavily advertised, but we’ve seen several customers benefit from them without realising they qualified.
Check your eligibility through Rutland County Council or South Kesteven District Council.

4. VAT Relief on Solar Panel Installations
An additional type of solar panel grants Lincolnshire Rutland is the VAT Relief on solar panel installations.
Here’s a win that many people don’t realise exists — the UK government currently offers 0% VAT on solar installations until 2027.
Installing a system on your home?
If so…
- You won’t pay any VAT on the supply or installation
- This makes systems around 5–20% cheaper than they were just a few years ago

Programme offerings
While funding pots change often, recent programmes have offered the following:
- 30–50% towards the cost of solar installations
- Advice and support through local Growth Hubs or Net Zero programmes
We recommend checking with:
- Greater Lincolnshire LEP
- Business Lincolnshire Growth Hub
- Green BELLE (for Leicester/Leicestershire) if you’re further south near Market Harborough
We also help business clients prepare supporting paperwork if applying for these grants.
Businesses can check available grants through the Greater Lincolnshire LEP or Business Lincolnshire.

A Quick Word of Advice
There are a lot of “too good to be true” offers floating around, especially on social media. Be cautious of cold callers or third-party firms promising “100% government-funded solar”. Most legitimate support requires eligibility checks and won’t cover the full cost.
